| Experts estimate the number of street children in Rio, Brazil between thousand to five thousand. Mostly they come from the poor favelas (slums) of Rio. Victims of agression and violence they fly from their homes and find shelter under the highway bridges in the centre. In the streets they have a hard live. They live from shoe shining, begging, robbing, and some girls from prostitution. Not seldom they are violated and even murdered by the police. In spite of their hardships they have, like every teener, dreams and expectations about the future. “I just want to become happy” one girl wrote in my copybook. |
